I Name Me Name

Written by Jack Hirschmann for USA on no date provided

With an evermore intense and sage lucidity, Opal Palmer-Adisa has written a marvelous score of Soul both in quest of the Name of her “Iself” and in assertive affirmation of a whole generation of African-American struggles. The fiery poetical and autobiographical motion of her breadth is breathtaking. Rhythm and line have truly become her home on page after page of exclamatory lyricism, with grand homages to sister-poets like June Jordan and Audre Lorde, and to brother warriors as well. Palmer-Adisa’s Jamaican roots give her flame an added glow in a book that has a beautifully controlled incendiary momentum.
