Thank you for your enquiry regarding the publishing interests of Peepal Tree Press.  Peepal Tree Press publishes Caribbean and Black British fiction, poetry, literary criticism, memoirs and historical studies.  We depend on selling the books we publish – your support would be appreciated! If you have never read a Peepal Tree book, and don't ever plan to, we're probably not the publisher for you. We do publish a high proportion of first time writers, but most will have published before in literary magazines or newspapers, and all are voracious readers…

You should also be aware that Peepal Tree comprises of three people. We do everything from list selection, editing, typesetting, jacket design, printing the books, binding and packing orders ourselves. We are overstretched, which is reflected in our slow response times to submissions. Our books are distributed in the Caribbean, UK, USA and Canada, and can be ordered throughout the world from our website and booksellers. We do our best, but you are not dealing with a large infrastructure!

You should be warned that we receive between 10 and 20 submissions a week, but can only publish between 15 and 20 books a year, the financial rewards are pitiful, and it all takes a long time.  That said, you are most welcome to submit work, and it will be considered. You are strongly encouraged to submit by e-mail. We cannot return your hard copy, but will ensure that it is shredded and recycled should your submission be unsuccessful.
