Khadijah Ibrahiim on BBC Radio 4: Writing Yorkshire

Peepal Tree Press took part in a BBC Radio 4 Extra showcase programme ‘Writing Yorkshire’. The programme will be broadcast on Saturday 15 September on BBC Radio 4 Extra at 9am and then again at 7pm. The show will feature poet Khadijah Ibrahiim.

The Kitch Tour

Anthony Joseph embarks on series of UK and US events exploring the legacy of The Empire Windrush. Marking the first major wave of migrants from the Caribbean to UK in the 20th century, their arrival changed and enriched our society and culture. Joseph will use his new novel, Kitch, as a starting point to interrogate this history and look at where we are now. Join him to examine the politics and activism, culture and music of the Caribbean on Britain.

The Various Art of Poetry, or, ‘Not the Royal Wedding’

In The White Goddess, Robert Graves describes how the status of Irish ollaves was such that they were the only members of the court apart from the King entitled to wear six different colours in their apparel, and memorably compared roving bands of itinerant bards, dazzling in their motley, to the many-coloured mixed flocks of titmice — great, blue, coal, marsh, willow, long-tailed — that roam the countryside in autumn and winter, each singing their distinctive songs.
