Kitch makes the Republic of Consciousness Prize 2019 shortlist

We're excited to announce that Anthony Joseph's Kitch has made the shortlist for the Republic of Consciousness 2019 Prize! There will be a shortlist reading at the London Review Bookshop on Wednesday 20 March, 7pm.

Anthony Joseph's novel about calypso legend Lord Kitchener joins Chris McCabe's novel Dedalus (Henningham Family Press), novella Doppelgänger by Daša Drndić (tr. Celia Hawkesworth & S. D. Curtis) (Istros), Lucia by Alex Pheby (Galley Beggar Press), short story 'Murmur by Will Eaves (CB Editions) and short story collection Sweet Home by Wendy Erskine (Stinging Fly).

The winner announcement is on Thursday 28 March, at Foyle's Charing Cross.

There is also a cash prize attached to the shortlisting: £1000 to the publisher, £500 to the author. This is almost unique in literary prizes - where the monies nearly always go directly to authors - and acts as an investment in independent presses. The winning press will be awarded £2,500, with the author receiving an extra £1,000.
