The author tells a beautiful story with her character descriptions being so vibrant and rich. Snippets of each individual's upbringing are woven into the novel which draw you into their personal history and allow you to appreciate and empathize with their choices and decisions. Her descriptions of Trinidad are beautifully historic and create a vivid portrait of what life was in this era. Even her recounting of oil drilling was told in a way that allowed you to appreciate the process without being overwhelmed with technicalities.
The novel's blurb describes this book as being about love, money, greed and ambition and Amanda Smyth most definitely delivered this and so much more!
