Essential Reading

Written by Rob Kirk for Amazon on Wednesday, October 28, 2020

This is a very timely revision and republication of the author’s original work, which first appeared more than twenty years ago. It now takes into account newly-uncovered documents which shed more light on the fascinating life of the radical Shapurji Saklavata. Importantly, the content also has extra traction in two key ways. Firstly, in terms of the current reappraisal of the role of imperialism and neo-colonialism in British history, and the many issues now raised by the Black Lives Matter movement. And secondly, in the context of the uncomfortable relationship between class and race in British politics, and the tendency of the Left to engage in ultimately self-defeating sectarian conflict. It should be required reading for anybody who wants to understand what’s made us the way we are.
