When we think of "classics" certain titles come to mind, but West Indian (Caribbean) classics are rarely considered. I'd say BUTTERFLY IN THE WIND by Lakshmi Persaud is a modern classic. A beautiful story set in the 1940s and 1950s following the life of our main protagonist Kamla.

What I liked about the book was that it wasn't laced with violence or trauma like many others of its kind. It was, well, pretty chill. And gorgeously written too! I'd highly recommend this one.
