The fables comprised in The Sleepers of Roraima--first published in 1970--and The Age of the Rainmakers--first published in 1971--and now re-issued by Peepal Tree Press in a single volume, can be categorized as anthropological fiction. Harris calls the stories fables [ . . . ] Because these stories are individual fables/stories rather than the usual tales that tell of a culture's beliefs, Harris subscribes de facto to what Carl Jung terms the collective unconscious.
