In his debut poetry collection, Providential, Colin Channer presents a candid reflection about his family, life in Jamaica and New England, and history and culture of the Jamaican police. Using an intimate persona, Channer also powerfully explores various physical landscapes and scenes of violence in Jamaica. As written in Jamaica patois and American English, the poems further exude Channer’s lyrical ability to encapsulate the versatility of dialogue and nuances of language.
