Volcano

Written by Simon Lee for Trinidad Guardian on no date provided

I'd like to recommend the recently published Peepal Tree Press book Volcano by Yvonne Weekes of Montserrat.

This haunting journal of a former Montserratian Director of Culture, who remained on her island in the village of Corkhill, until the daily ash made life untenable, is a sobering testimony of love for an island and a way of life, gone forever. Ms Weekes has relocated to Barbados, where she seems as unhappy as I am in London; but although she’s lost her island, she’s found a new strength in facing the volcano which destroyed it and which is a reminder of how much of this extraordinary area of the kingdom of this world was created.

N’a we pita... we go pick up.
