Bookshelf 2023: "a very rich read"

...Jennifer Rahim (who, we wrote in Bookshelf 2017, has “an exceptional gift for words”) speaks through the voice of a young postal worker who in 1963, a year after Independence, takes a temporary assignment in the fictional coastal village of Macaima. Her gradual learning—with all its doubts and mysteries—about the lives of the colorful village characters (most of whom are related, at least in “a pumpkin-vine way”), and its effect on her own life, form the core of this gracefully written book.
