Daryl Cumber Dance
She has worked almost equally in African-American and Caribbean Studies for many years. Her publications include: Shuckin' and Jivin': Folklore from Contemporary Black Americans (1978), Folklore from Contemporary Jamaicans (1985), Fifty Caribbean Writers: A Bio-Bibliographical Critical Source Book (1986 - named as the outstanding reference book of 1986 by Library Journal), Long Gone: The Mecklenburg Six and the Theme of Escape in Black Folklore (1987) and In Search of Annie Drew: Jamaica Kincaid's Mother and Muse (2016). Daryl has also contributed essays on African American and Caribbean writers to numerous other books and journals.
Without question, she is one of the most respected scholars within the field of Caribbean studies, particularly relating to Caribbean women writers.
