Monica Minott’s ‘Zion Roses’ is just out by Peepal Tree, a sophomore collection that builds from her debut collection 4 years ago, Kumina Queen. The titles alone tell you how interested Minott is in an Afro-Caribbean spirituality – in Kumina, and Rastafari, and the ritual of Jonkonoo that occasions a whole sequence of poems in this new collection. Interestingly, Don Drummond also makes an appearance here and the Haitian artist Basquiat.
