What does success look like for arts in criminal justice settings? is the bold new paper from the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance (NCJAA), commissioned by Arts Council England in 2017, highlights the findings from a series of roundtables which considered the titular question. The paper has special relevance to writers and artists working in criminal justice settings, such as writers-in-residence at prisons.
The paper, published this week, has been adapted from an earlier paper produced for ACE by NCJAA and circulating internally to support and inform their thinking on advocacy, investment and support for arts in criminal justice. Key messages from the roundtable discussions are presented here as learning points, which have fed into the NCJAA 2018-22 work plan as a new Sector Support Organisation for Arts Council England. The conclusion sets out some potential next steps for the NCJAA and strategic stakeholders to consider.
