This workshop will train participants to use keywords, visual reference, iterative drawing, and design briefs to generate concepts that are applicable to prose, still, and sequential-based narratives. Concept Design is the process of generating visual or written ideas. When this technique is applied to stories based on and around our diasporas, the dynamic process expands exponentially.

Participants will need to supply their own drawing materials: Pencils; charcoal; pastels/oils or if available: Analog- Pencil/Pen, colours. Digital - iPad, laptop, drawing tablet, photoshop.

Tim Fielder is an Illustrator, concept designer, cartoonist, and animator born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and raised in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He has a lifelong love of visual Afrofuturism, pulp entertainment, and action films. He holds other Afrofuturists such as Samuel R Delany, Octavia Butler, Pedro Bell, and Overton Lloyd as major influences. He is known for the graphic novel, INFINITUM: An Afrofuturist Tale, published by HarperCollins Amistad in 2021. Additionally, he produced the Glyph Award-winning Matty’s Rocket.
