The late Dr Denis Williams (1923-1998) excelled in many fields. This short session looks primarily at two: his work as an artist and his work as an archaeologist. Stanley Greaves speaks to the former, Professor Mark Plew to the latter. This session continues the Moray House Trust Samaan Tree Series.
The Moray House Trust's third annual recital of poems on the theme of love includes Martin Carter's "Letter 2" (written while he was imprisoned at Atkinson Field), as well as poems by Michael Aarons, Stephanie Bowry, Juanita Cox, Robert (Bobby) Fernandes, Keon Heywood, Lloyd Marshall, Ian McDonald and others. The recital lasts half an hour.
Moray House published readings from an essay by the late Kamau Brathwaite, entitled "Martin Carter's Poetry of the Negative Yes". In the essay, Brathwaite explores the metaphysical in Martin's poems. Brathwaite pays particular attention to the poems: "I am No Soldier", "With that Loan", "Bent", and "Ground Doves". These readings commemorate Martin Carter's birthday and form part of the Moray House Trust Samaan Tree Series.
In its end-of-year article Original Observer Photography, The Observer features a wonderful photograph of Peepal Tree writer Anthony Joseph and his cat, Nara, photographed in Camberwell Green, London for a quiz in the Puzzle special.
The latest issue of BIM is now out and features a number of Peepal Tree authors.
The journal has an in memoriam section dedicated to George Lamming, including the poems "Memory" by Esther Phillips and "For George Lamming" by John Robert Lee.

We have just learned of the sad news of the death of Lakshmi Persaud on the 14th January, peacefully at her home in Mill Hill, London, surrounded by her children. She was 86.
